Barnadi Wildlife Sanctuary situated in the foot hills of Himalayas, with an area of 28.22 sq km attract large number of inland and foreign tourists for its exotic virgin beauty.

Barnadi Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in Darrang District of Assam and is near to the international border with Bhutan. It is around 70 km from Mangaldoi. Sanctuary is within the buffer zone of the Manas Tiger Reserve and located in the newly created Udalguri District.

This sanctuary was declared as a reserve forest in 1942 and Wildlife Sanctuary in 1980.

Flora and Fauna - The spectacular landscape of this small but important protected area is unique. Pygmy Hog, Elephant, Gaur or Indian Bison, Slow Loris, Tiger, Leopard, Capped Langur, Sambar, Barking Deer, Hog Deer, Dhole, Peacoak, Hispid Hare and 4 species of Hornbills are the main attractions of this Park.

Major Wildlife Attractions - This sanctuary shelters pigmy hog, bison, Asiatic elephant, hispid hare, pangolin, tiger, leopard, capped langur, porcupine and some migratory and local birds such as peacocks, Bengal florican, horn bills, king fisher and woodpecker.

Best Time to Visit - the wildlife is between the months of December to April.

How to Get there

Road: National Highway 52 provides easy accessibility to Sanctuary.

Rail: Nearest railheads are at Chaparmukh and Guwahati.

Air: Nearest airport is at Guwahati (130 km).

General Info / Tips
There is one Forest Inspection Bungalow at Atherighat (a place nearby). There are also hotels and lodges in Mangaldoi.
