| About Ranibennur Wildlife Sanctuary |

This Sanctuary is situated approximately 301 kms from Bangalore in Haveri district. It is 8 kms away from Ranebennur town. Ranebennur Blackbuck Sanctuary was declared a wildlife sanctuary on the 17th of June 1974 to protect Balckbucks. There are around 6,000 blackbucks in the sanctuary. The sanctuary is spread over 119 sq kms. The vegetation comprises of open grasslands, Eucalyptus, Acacia and Neem trees.
The highly endangered the great Indian Bustard bird is found in this region.
Other birds spotted here are the Peafowl, Sirkeer Cuckoo, Large Grey Babbler, Baybacked Shrike, Black Drongo, Grey Partridge, Sand Grouse and many others.

| Flora and Fauna |

Flora: The vegetation here comprises mainly of scrub forests and extensive eucalyptus plantations. There are also Acacia and Neem trees. Blackbuck are plentiful with a count of more than 6000 in the 2005 census.
Fauna: The sanctuary is also inhabited by the highly endangered Great Indian Bustard and the wolf. However, the Great Indian Bustard has not been sighted in the sanctury since around 2002 and may be locally extinct. In and around Airani Gudda/hill is the sanctuary of Hyenas.

The sanctuary is also home to Wolf, Wild Boar, Fox, Jackal, Langur, Porcupine, Mongoose, Hare and Pangolin. In and around Airani Gudda/hill is the sanctuary of Hyenas.

| Best Time to Visit |

The best time to visit the sanctuary is October to March for observing the Blackbuck. May-June are the best for bird watching. It is open through out the year.
How to Get there
Air: The nearest airport is in Bellary, which is located at a distance of 119 kms from Haveri.
Rail: Haveri is connected with most of the metros like Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai through regular trains. It is about 7 hours by train from Bangalore.
Road: There is a good network of roads that connects Haveri to other important cities of the region. It is located on
NH-4 towards Mumbai.
